I've done it. My debut novel is out and available in paperback in the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Australia, Japan and the Netherlands, and in over 170 countries in e-book. Pretty cool to see my book around the states and around the world, in people's hands, on people's shelves, and to hear people's response to my work. I've had some backers of the campaign finish the book in just a week, a weekend, two days, twelve hours... People have told me they were "addicted" and "overwhelmed with emotion" and showered me with praise, said they were "fangirling." So weird. Such a wonderful place to be, after many days, weeks, months, years, alone at the coffee shop and eventually at my kitchen nook, just clicking away and staring at a blank screen--struggling, suffering, pushing myself to insane levels in pursuit of perfection.
It's one step at a time: one word, one sentence, one paragraph, one page. And before you know, an entire chapter, an entire work. I'm aiming for the top, sure. That's the dream. But I really am enjoying living for the respect and legitimacy of producing high quality work in a timely manner, and the reactions of each individual along the way. It's a very cool place to be where you can see your book up for sale, your brand and platform expanding, royalties adding up. It's a very cool thing when people are asking you to sign their book. You can see this little special something in the squiggly lines, in their smile, in their eyes as they talk about you and about what you've done, where you're going. All I can say is, this must be the beginning of my vision finally coming to life~
